Double A Promotes Sustainable Consumption through 1Dream 1Tree

Bangkok, Thailand, 6 July 2016 – Leading high quality paper maker, Double A, introduced 1Dream 1Tree initiative in an effort to encourage sustainable consumption.

This initiative allows consumers to participate by activating a Thai farmer to plant a Double A Paper-Tree in their name. This program will be rolled out in four key markets in Asia – Singapore, Malaysia, Korea and Thailand – between July and September this year.

Over the course of the next three months, each ream of Double A 80 gsm paper will have a unique QR code on the packaging, which, when scanned, takes the user to a microsite and will activate the planting of a Double A Paper-Tree. An e-certificate will be sent to the user upon registration, while a notification of planting with the GPS coordinates of where their tree has been planted will be sent separately.

Double A’s Paper from KHAN-NA refers to a unique agro-forestry practice that utilizes the vacant space between rice fields in Thailand, owned by local farmers.  During the process, the KHAN-NA – previous unproductive land – is transformed into a productive resource, which provides additional income to over 1.5 million farmers when they sell the sustainable fibre-source back to Double A.

Supporting the campaign as a technical partner for sustainable forestry is the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), the world’s largest forest certification system. As the certification system of choice for small- and family forest owners around the world, PEFC is the ideal partner for this initiative.

“As PEFC is developing solutions for trees outside forests certification, it’s very beneficial to collaborate with
Double A on their initiative. It comes at a very opportune moment, as Thai stakeholders are developing their national forest certification system, which would enable PEFC certification of these trees in the near future,” said Sarah Price, Head of Projects and Development at PEFC International.

“With ‘1Dream 1Tree,’ we are looking at expanding the KHAN-NA model of agro-forestry further by planting one million trees between July and September this year. We are glad to welcome PEFC as our technical partner for this particular initiative as they’ll be providing us with helpful knowledge and guidelines to further enhance our sustainable fiber source,” said Mr. Thirawit LeetavornDouble A’s Senior Executive Vice President.
